Meet the Family Behind the Adventures

Hi there! I’m Sam—wife to Justin, mom to two spirited, adventurous little girls Emmalyn and Isabel, and the main storyteller behind this blog. In our normal lives we live in a cozy tiny town nestled along the shores of Lake Huron in southwestern Ontario, Canada. Summers here are pure magic: sandy picturesque beaches, world renown sunsets, and barefoot BBQs with friends. Winters however are long, dark, cold and snowy and leave me dreaming of plane tickets to warmer places.

Before we met, Justin and I were both avid travelers, and that shared love for exploring the world has only grown stronger in our relationship. We spent weeks exploring southeast Asia, experienced Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and got engaged in Morrocco under the stars of the Sahara Desert (…and next to a pile of camel poop). Now, in our journey as parents we’re determined to show our girls the world. We’re also both engineers, which means we can’t help but approach life with equal parts curiosity, planning, and a healthy appreciation for problem‑solving optimization and spreadsheets. We have done quite a bit of travel with the girls so far, but we are getting ready for the biggest adventure of our lives.

In August 2026, our little family of four will be embarking on a year-long sabbatical to travel the world together. It’s a dream we sparked years ago, and now it’s finally happening. We’ll be swapping routines for spontaneity and traditional classrooms for the world around us as we lean into homeschooling the girls.

This blog will be our travel journal, our memory keeper, and hopefully a source of inspiration for other families who are interested in following along. We’ll share the highs and lows of slow travel with kids, the logistics of planning a global sabbatical, and the beautiful, messy reality of learning as we go.

Whether we’re navigating bustling cities, slow beach towns, delayed flights, culture shock, homesickness or simply figuring out how to homeschool on the road, we’ll be trying our best to document it all right here. We will also be sharing photos and stories through our Instagram and Facebook accounts if you’d like to follow along on there as well.

Thanks for joining us on this adventure—we’re so glad you’re here.
